Welcome to H2OME, San Diego's first rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling installation business.
Did you know that you can harvest 600 gallons of rainwater off a 1000 square foot roof in only 1" of rain?! It rains, on average, 10" in San Diego each year. But most of that rain falls between November and March so we need to catch and store as much as we can when we can! With hundreds or even thousands of gallons draining off your roof each year, consider starting with a 500 gallon tank or at the least a 205 gallon tank.
Greywater is the gently used water from your washing machine, showers, and bathroom sinks. This is an abundant resource that is largely wasted here in San Diego. Did you know that you can put in a Laundry-to-Landscape Greywater System for as little as $250 in materials. Start sending that water out to your trees, bushes, and vines with no permit required! Cut down on your water costs with a greywater system today!
Conserving water in Southern California has more to do with changing our landscaping ethic than almost anything else you can do in your home. Currently 65% of our residential water use is on our landscapes. Instead of planting landscapes that belong in climates that receive more than 30" of rain a year, we can plant beautiful, drought tolerant landscapes that provide animal habitat, scenery, and food! Let's talk about keeping all the water that falls on our landscapes in our landscapes!
H2OME wants to ensure that you make the best decision for your home, your family, your budget and your yard. We offer customized solutions. When we come out for a consultation, we assess all your water potential to come up with a water budget. Then we match that budget to your plants. We make suggestions for changes you can make to reduce your water use before implementing costly solutions. We offer a range of solutions including workshops, do-it-yourself resources, large scope design with gradual implementation, as well as complete solutions.
Topics we cover in our home consultations:
- total rainwater potential from roof
- gutter layout and resources
- rainwater tank sizes, pricing, locations
- rerouting downspouts into existing landscape
- mulching and basin suggestions
- integrating rainwater with existing irrigation
- available rebates
- greywater sources that are accessible
- routing of greywater pipes
- greywater valve accessibility
- appropriate plantings
- pricing and materials
- where to get parts for do-it-yourself options
- upcoming workshops and events
- tradeoffs of gravity fed simple systems vs integrated pumped systems
H2OME partners with organizations around San Diego to provide information, tools, resources, and events which highlight simple residential solutions to increasing our local water supply. Interestingly the same solutions that create a water conservation ethic ease the costs and complexities of large scale municipalities solutions to issues like storm water pollution, expanding infrastructure for wastewater treatment, water supply, etc. We regularly hold do-it-yourself workshops with The San Diego Sustainable Living Institute. We consult with and advise Surfrider and Coastkeeper. We speak to gardening clubs, community organizations, schools, businesses, and at regional events. We'd love to help your community learn more about what each one of us can do to be part of the solution for long term water sustainability here in San Diego.
We have 5 years of experience implementing simple, cost-effective solutions for conserving water. Our team has an eye toward maximizing your return on investment by providing many layers of payoff for each aspect of implementation. We regularly install 500+ gallon tanks, shower greywater systems, and laundry-to-landscape greywater systems. We also install kitchen greywater systems. We can help you contour your landscape to catch and hold any existing water resources. We can also suggest and source plantings that will thrive on little water or high water depending on if you have a drought tolerant part of your yard or a greywater oasis!
