Water Harvesting Earthworks Workshop

  • Pacific Beach

Let's work together to green our public spaces, reduce our imported water dependence, clean up our rivers and oceans, and build community!

In this upcoming workshop in Pacific Beach we will be recontouring this unproductive parkway to harvest runoff from the adjacent homeowner's roof and grow natives.

to highly effective storm water retention basin you see below.  With the help of John Nobel, from Coastal Sage, we will get a primer on local natives that can grow in these areas and how to prepare the soil and plant them so that they will thrive.

This water harvesting basin in the parkway is utilizing rainwater run-on to infiltrate water to plant root systems.

This parkway is like many in San Diego, mounded and sparsely vegetated.  It neither lets rainwater soak in, nor keeps soil and other pollutants from being shed into the storm drains.  Notice the rainwater downspouts on the house.  It's easy to put drains from here to the parkway keeping the water onsite and away from the foundation.
