The drought has officially been declared! And while we haven't been required to reduce water consumption, it is our responsibility to do our best to contribute to water conservation here in Southern California.
Most people don't think a substantial rainwater tank is warranted or that greywater is a feasible option. This is your opportunity to get up close and personal with these very simple and productive technologies. We'll take you on a tour and explain the many aspects of rainwater tanks, Laundry-to-Landscape Systems, and a shower greywater system including materials, costs, do's and don'ts, rebates, and permitting. Did you know that you can get a 500 gallon rainwater tank for free after city and county rebates? Did you know that you can fill it up many times over in a single year off of even a small roof? Come see what it looks like and what is involved in installing it!
You'll see how these systems combine to create a lush and beautiful garden with very little additional water needs. We will host local water agency officials who will tell us about the latest water conservation rebates, as well as local businesses and nonprofits who can provide information and services regarding practical application of a range of Southern California appropriate planting and water efficiency.
There will be a tour starting at 10:00 and another one at 11:30, where you will learn about simple greywater systems, do-it-yourself options, rainwater-harvesting systems, resources, or you can schedule an appointment with H2OME to assess greywater and rainwater opportunities at your site. Snacks will be provided by Good Neighbor Gardens. Suggested donation of $5-20 will go toward supporting water activism in San Diego. Come even if you can't pay. Please RSVP to get the address.
